Services Overview

In addition to offering traditional recruiting services, Sherlock has become the hub for IT networking in Florida through its creation, leadership and support of multiple technology users groups and networking groups including the .NET Miami Users Group and the South Florida Association of Internet Professionals. The company provides on-going support to the South Florida Java Users Group, the .NET Gold Coast Users Group, the Florida Linux User Xchange, the South Florida Oracle Users Group, and more.  Modeled after similar groups in Silicon Valley, these groups provide an opportunity for potential employers and employees to mingle in an informal setting. Additionally, they offer a forum for learning and exchanging information on multiple technologies.

South Florida Association of Internet Professionals

This group meets the last Tuesday of the month for an IT Networking and Social in Murphy’s Law Irish Pub at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino entertainment complex near Ft. Lauderdale – located West of I-95 on the corner of Stirling Road and Route 441.  Attendance ranges to over 100 IT professionals each month.  Dozens of job openings are  announced by hiring companies at each event and informal job interviews are conducted on-site.

Special events are often held at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Theater of Nova Southeastern University.  Audience attendance ranges to over 400.  Three recent events at the Miniaci have been collaborative group meetings of the SF-AIP and the Users Groups listed below.  The focus of the events is on educating the technology community through technical competitions and special speakers.  Steve Wozniak, cofounder of Apple Computers, was one of these special speakers at the recent “Woz at the Shore” event.

On-stage Technical Competitions have included the entire “War at the Shore” series of technology debates, beginning in the year 2000.  In “War at the Shore V, Gladiators of Code”, we presented three teams of three I.T. professionals each in an on-stage technology exhibition, complete with Roman Goddesses.  Speakers included corporate representatives from IBM and Oracle, as well as I.T. professionals representing Microsoft and Linux technologies.  In “War at the Shore IV, Windows vs. Linux” at the Miniaci, we organized two teams of three I.T. professionals each debating Operating Systems. Speakers came from Red Hat Corp for Linux and Microsoft Corp. for Windows.  Supporting debaters came from the local community, including Dr. Raul Salazar of Nova Southeastern University. The first “War at the Shore” was an Internet Applications Development debate entitled .NET vs. Java and featured corporate speakers from Sun Microsystems and Microsoft; In “War at the Shore II” the database debate of Oracle vs. SQL Server starred hard hitting speakers from the Oracle and Microsoft corporations.
